Are you an Independent worker - freelancer, consultant, independent contractor, temp, part-timer, contingent employee or selfemployed? If you are, then you currently make up about 30% of the nation’s workforce, as well as a growing number of our New York Women in Communications members.
We have partnered with the FREELANCERS UNION to offer you access to your group-rate health insurance plans, as well as access to term life and long term disability insurance, dental insurance and a range of other discounted services. Although anyone can join Freelancers Union, you must meet eligibility guidelines to qualify for insurance. You may qualify if you meet the following:
You will not be considered an independent worker if, at the time of application, you are working fulltime as a W-2 employee and have been for the last 18 months for the same employer. The only exception to this is if you work for a temporary or placement agency.
We’ll have you submit paperwork to show that:
You’ve worked at least 20 paid hours in each of the last 8 weeks, or you've earned at least $10,000 for work done within the last 6 months.
