SPOTLIGHT: MICHELLE TAN
Michelle Tan is the Editorial Director of MAKERS and a passionate advocate for women and girls. At MAKERS, she has defined the voice, editorial mission, and content strategy for the brand while developing popular video series such as Bold & Untold by MAKERS which highlights the hidden figures in history and has amassed more than 24 million video views. Prior to MAKERS, Michelle was the Editor in Chief of Seventeen, where she expanded the magazine’s focus to include features on race, immigration, and entrepreneurship. Under her leadership, Seventeen developed a yearlong partnership with First Lady Michelle Obama and was a finalist for a National Magazine Award in General Excellence, the publication’s first nomination in 30 years. Michelle began her career at People as an intern and rose through the ranks to become the Special Projects Editor covering pop culture, entertainment, health, and human interest. She has delivered keynote speeches about women in the workplace, diversity, and mentorship at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Verizon, and AdColor. She has also appeared as an on-air expert discussing pop culture, breaking news, women in media, style and health/fitness on Today, Good Morning America, Live with Kelly, BUILD, and Entertainment Tonight. She lives in New York City with her husband and daughter.
