Linda Boff: The Power of Emotional Connection

Linda Boff, with nearly two decades of experience at GE, has been deeply involved in the ever-changing landscape of the renewable energy and power industries. As the Chief Marketing Officer, she works on everything from global marketing to corporate communications to media relations. On this episode of the WomenHeard: Changemakers podcast, Boff generously shares valuable insight on the personal approaches that have proven successful throughout her career. Here are a few things you can look forward to hearing about during the conversation with host Georgia Galanoudis.

PEOPLE REMEMBER STORIES

According to Boff, simply focusing on what you want people to know without considering what you want them to feel may not leave a lasting impression. She emphasizes the importance of finding the emotional connection in delivering information, as it’s crucial in effective storytelling and conveying your authentic truth.

YOU NEED PEOPLE AROUND WHO ARE BETTER THAN YOU

…and you need to be OK with it!

Boff emphasizes her strong belief that as a brand leader in marketing, “you cannot succeed if you need to do it all.” Her leadership philosophy is deeply rooted in the values of collaboration and trust. She highlights how this approach has been especially effective in her personal life, sharing how as a working mother she had to relinquish control and trust in her partner’s capabilities to achieve collective goals.

GROWING THROUGH POSITIVITY

In her dedicated commitment to company growth, Boff implemented the Japanese philosophy of kaizen, which emphasizes continuous improvement. She firmly believes that by working together and fostering a collaborative environment, “everyday can be better than the one before, but you work together, you work horizontally.”

As an optimist, Boff believes in the importance of expressing appreciation, providing positive encouragement, and assuming good intentions within her team. These elements have played a significant role in the company’s transformative journey.
