Foundations for the Future: Celebrating National Boss Babe Day
Did you know that since June 2021, every year on May 22, National Boss Babe Day is celebrated?
National Boss Babe Day was created by Heather Schwendeman-Kincaid in loving memory of her mother, Donna Schwendeman who was the original boss babe who did it all from being a Girl Scout mom to a resident Avon lady. The day is dedicated to recognizing and empowering the phenomenal women who chase their dreams with relentless passion, who break down barriers and build empires, one power move at a time. Boss babes are the go-getters, the risk-takers, the rule breakers.
Rulebreakers. Tuesday night, May 21 the prestigious Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City glittered once again as the New York Women in Communications (NYWICI) hosted the 54th Annual Matrix Awards. This year’s theme, “Rule Breakers,” perfectly encapsulated the spirit of the evening, celebrating seven inspirational women who have shattered glass ceilings and redefined success on their own terms.
The Matrix Awards are a powerful tradition held for more than five decades, not just for recognizing the titans across all disciplines of communications, but also for empowering and fostering the future for the next generation of women.
The awards gala featured eleven outstanding scholarship recipients representing the incoming class of rising stars in the industry. The night was filled with inspiring speeches, heartwarming tributes, and a renewed sense of purpose for the future.
The scholarship recipients’ presence served as a powerful reminder that the legacy of the “Rule Breakers” will continue to empower future fearless leaders.
The 2024 honorees embody this spirit, and in each of their speeches they shared words of wisdom inspiring young women to have remarkable journeys and unwavering dedication to changing the status quo.
A boss babe is a woman who exudes confidence, embraces challenges, and paves her own path. Boss babes aren’t afraid of a good challenge, and they understand that the path to success is rarely smooth yet rise to meet every obstacle with grit and determination.
