Cornerstone Conversations: Traditional v. New Media—Where Does Podcasting Fit In?
with WSJ’s Jamie Heller and Annie Minoff, in conversation with Dustee Jenkins of Spotify
16 years ago, only 22% of Americans even knew the word “podcast.” Today, 75% are familiar with the term. At once a “new” medium as well as a “traditional” one, podcasting is most popular with the coveted 18–44 demographic, attracts a wealthier and more educated audience than other media, and has experienced 1,000% in ad revenue growth in just five years. But are podcasts an effective source of news? How do news organizations of record like the Wall Street Journal view new media like podcasts in aiding their centuries-old mission of being a “definitive source of news and information?”
Join Jamie Heller, Business Editor of the Wall Street Journal and Annie Minoff, Senior Producer of The Journal., a joint-production of Gimlet and Spotify, in cornerstone conversations with Dustee Jenkins, Global Head of Public Affairs, Spotify as they explore the constantly evolving and fascinating world of news, storytelling and information through the lens of a shifting media landscape. This will be a unique chance to get an inside look at how the WSJ is covering the news shaping our world from both a traditional and new media standpoint from Spotify’s NY headquarters.
Light refreshments will be served. Space is limited. Please plan on showing photo ID in the lobby of 4 WTC.
