MARLEE MATLIN

Actress and Activist

MARLEE MATLIN received worldwide critical acclaim for her motion picture debut in Children of a Lesser God, a performance the film community chose to recognize with its highest honor—the Academy Award® for Best Actress. At age 21, she became the youngest recipient of the Best Actress Oscar® and one of only four actresses to receive that honor for a film debut. In addition to the Oscar®, Matlin was honored by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association with the Golden Globe® Award for Best Actress in a Drama.

Matlin has been praised for her work in the independent feature film CODA, which earned several prestigious awards. It received multiple Academy Awards, notably Best Feature Film, as well as Adapted Screenplay and Supporting Actor. The film additionally took home the top prize at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Other awards include: NBR, NAACP Image Award, HCA and AFI Honor. Independent Spirit, Critics Choice, BAFTA, Gotham, and International Press Academy. The film premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival and earned a record breaking 4 awards including Cast, Jury and Audience, as well as setting new festival record in its sale to AppleTV.

Matlin’s acting work on “Reasonable Doubts,” earner her two Golden Globe Award nominations and a People’s choice Award. Marlee also received four Emmy nominations for her work on “Seinfeld,” “Picket Fences,” “The Practice,” and “Law and Order: SVU.” Some of Marlee’s other notable TV credits include critically acclaimed series, “West Wing,” and “The L Word.”

Matlin continues to make a name for herself behind the camera. Producing several TV and Film projects, including the 2021 Academy Award Nominated short film FEELING THROUGH. And is making her directorial debut on the network series “Accused.” The series, based on the acclaimed British drama is co-production by Sony Pictures Television and Fox, and produced by Howard Gordon, Alex Gansa and David Shore.

Matlin was just elected to the Board Of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences (AMPAS).

Marlee’s New York Times best-selling autobiography I’ll Scream Later was published by Simon Spotlight, a division of Simon and Schuster, in April 2009. In addition, Matlin published a novel for children titled Deaf Child Crossing for Simon and Schuster.

Matlin has been instrumental in many activities that are aiding the deaf and hard of hearing communities. She is an avid crusader for closed captions on all media forms. She helped get legislation passed that mandated ASL interpreters be present at ALL COVID-19 press conferences. She also organized a PSA that included leaders in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community that aided the millions Deaf and Hard of Hearing Americans in accessing resources on how to vote in the past presidential elections.

CAMRYN MANHEIM

Actress, and Bestselling Author

Camryn Manheim received an Emmy and Golden Globe Award for her portrayal of a feisty defense attorney on the hit television show, The Practice. In her long career that spans over 40 years, she has appeared in over 60 television shows, 40 movies, and countless plays.  Manheim made her Broadway debut in 2015 in Deaf West’s Tony nominated production of Spring Awakening. 

She is the daughter of outspoken, politically aware parents who passed their activism on to all of their children. She is fluent in sign language and is a vocal advocate for the rights of the disabled.  She is proud to be a board member of the American Civil Liberties Union, an active supporter of The Feminist Majority & Planned Parenthood, as well as a handful of other important organizations. She is continuing her pursuit of Justice, by playing Lieutenant Kate Dixon in the return of the television series, Law & Order on NBC. Camryn is a New York Times bestselling author and lectures around the world.
