A Woman’s World: Investment is Impact

Happy Women’s History Month NYWICI Members! This March, I celebrate your resilience, courage, dedication, and investment in your personal and professional development.

The theme for Women’s History Month 2025 is “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations”, recognizing the powerful influence of women in education, mentorship, and leadership.

In honor of International Women’s Day on March 8, on Friday, March 7th NYWICI hosted our 2nd annual Beverly Wettenstein Speaker Series on Women in Healthcare at IBM’s new flagship New York City headquarters.

The half day event featured incredible speakers and pioneers in healthcare communications who discuss topics such AI in healthcare, the role of both corporations and community impact in healthcare and ended the program with a compelling and inspiring fireside chat with Sadia Zapp, Managing Director of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) moderated by NYWICI Board member Randi Liodice.

However, in today’s current climate, women’s history is being challenged, erased, and undervalued.

The underestimation of women has led to innovations across industries and provide a foundation for inspiration, unity and investment.

Women’s contributions are fundamental to the economic vitality business and society. Our roles extend far beyond traditional domestic spheres, permeating every sector of the economy.  Recognizing and amplifying our economic power is not just a matter of fairness; it’s a critical component of societal success.

The United Nations (UN) Women Initiative supports women’s economic empowerment with a growing body of evidence that shows that gender equality significantly contributes to advancing economies and sustainable development.

Moreover, according to a recent study by Bank of America, women are playing an increasingly important role in US economic growth. The study entitled “What’s the power of a woman’s wallet” looks closely at consumer spending and how women, through their increased participation in the workforce, contributed to discretionary spending growth that has outpaced men for the last two years.

Additionally, the report also highlights women’s median annual income growth continues to outpace men’s, helped by greater pay increases when changing jobs – a difference that increased to the highest level in over three years at the end of 2024. Women are an increasingly important driver of economic advancement, helping to fuel labor force growth and consumer spending.

As women continue to thrive in economic empowerment, I want to encourage and empower our members to continue to invest in YOU. By investing in yourself today, you will grow tomorrow. NYWICI is here to assist you with your personal and professional development.

There are several fantastic upcoming programs in April and May, one specifically on financial empowerment.
