2024 Mentoring Program

NYWICI believes that great relationships can empower great careers. That is why NYWICI created a mentor/mentee program that connects professionals in the industry with Rising Stars in the early stages of their careers. The goal is to create the opportunity to learn and grow specifically tailored to one’s needs all while keeping the flexibility to suit busy schedules.

Real World Growth from Guidance

Studies consistently show that people learn more effectively by engaging actively in their learning process. NYWICI’s mentorship program offers mentees numerous opportunities to experience the industry firsthand, providing them with a front-row seat to the action and allowing them to gain practical insights and experience.

Joanne Trout has invited me to join her agency visits in NYC these past few months and I got to interact with her Syracuse class and the professionals who work at major corporations like Omnicom Health Group and Critical Mass……. it gave me a different perspective on how traditional agencies vary from creative and media agencies. – Joyce Chen

Tangible Results

‘It takes a village to raise a child’, as the old adage goes- from the cradle to the college cap and gown. At NYWICI, we believe that it also takes a village to shape, inspire and propel forward successful careers. Your professional village is your network- a circle of confidents to lean on during the tough time and celebrate with in the moments of triumph.

“My mentor Joanna Coles was by my side for the whole interview process, giving me advice on how to prepare and even giving me a mock interview to build confidence while critiquing my answers to make them better. She made sure she was there to read over the draft of a thank you note and gave me advice about responding to my offer letter. I got the best news possible in that I got the fellowship!! Joanna seemed like she was as thrilled as me!!” Lilli Iannella

A Two Way Street

No matter the career stage, an integral part of professional development is to never stop learning. Through mentoring, while giving back to the younger generation, mentors also gain something from the experience!

“I’m so grateful that NYWICI offers this mentorship program! I’m honored to have served as a mentor for several years and am always appreciative of how much I learn from my mentees. This program is a wonderful way to connect with other women from a variety of backgrounds and areas of interest within our industry.” – Chelsea Orcutt

A Healthy Mindset

Navigating the career landscape, from networking to landing your first job, can be daunting and overwhelming. Having an outside perspective in a one-on-one non-judgmental environment makes a significant difference, providing support and clarity you need to overcome any barriers that might arise.

Brandi Boatner makes each call a comfortable space for me to speak in my voice, not a rigid environment where I feel the need to be on display. She has helped me network, prepare my mindset before interviews and before sending through applications, and she offers me the reminder that my time is valuable, and I should never find myself putting time and energy into situations that are not beneficial. – Amanda Dait

Industry Exploration

Classroom learning and textbooks lay the groundwork for your knowledge, but speaking with industry professionals and gaining first-hand experience are invaluable for obtaining a well-rounded perspective.

NYWICI’s mentoring program has helped direct me in terms of what factors to consider when looking for jobs in the industry, and I have learned about the responsibilities and skills of different roles in journalism. – Sarah Ng

Benjamin Franklin once said “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn”. Navigating the complexities of a career journey requires more than just academic knowledge; It demands real-world insight and guidance from those who have already walked a similar path. By embracing opportunities for mentorship you will receive firsthand experiences, cultivate relationships, and gain invaluable perspectives that are specifically tailored to your needs. The wisdom of others not only helps you avoid pitfalls, but also inspires and empowers you to reach new heights in your career journey!~
