Business Is NOT as Usual

5 Ways Entrepreneurs Can Be More Successful During COVID-19

It is safe to say that business has not been the same since COVID-19 began. As entrepreneurs and business owners struggled to pivot their businesses and find ways to keep their doors open, we were hit with the inevitable — mandatory quarantine. And although this was necessary, we were left feeling more afraid than ever before. The sad reality is that as we face a global pandemic, we are also dealing with businesses closing. For some, this is challenging but only temporary. For others, their doors will close permanently.

You’re probably thinking to yourself, “this is not a great time to be an entrepreneur.” Well, you’re wrong, because the truth is there is no right time to be an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs are faced with struggles every day and this one just happens to be on a larger scale. So, the question on everyone’s mind is: How can I succeed as an entrepreneur during COVID-19?

As a person who tries their best to look on the bright side of things, I came up with a list of five ways to maximize your success during this time. This list has helped me and I know it will help you, so let’s dive in!

1. STOP being so hard on yourself

I am the first to admit that I’m very hard on myself. Especially when I can’t finish my to-do list or when I reply late to emails. But remember, we are ALL going through a difficult right time. And the hardships we are going through will fade away soon. Better times are coming and always remember you are doing the best you can. So, if you are having a creative block or feeling down, it’s completely okay.

2. DON’T compare your business to other businesses on social media

For many, social media is a platform used to escape reality, but for entrepreneurs it is used to keep up with trends and to showcase your work. It can be extremely difficult not to compare yourself to other businesses. All businesses are different and success comes in many forms. You may see business owners with plenty of orders to ship or being featured in publications, but the struggles they face are not on display. The next time you are scrolling through social media, keep in mind that social media is like a business portfolio, only showcasing the best work.

3. Get organized

Right now we are seeing many businesses having some downtime. It’s important as an entrepreneur to take this downtime and get your life on track. For tasks like organizing your business receipts that you always seem to push to the bottom of your to-do list, this is the time to start working on that. Take this time and use it wisely, but remember you are human and we are all going through a difficult experience. Take each task one day at a time, and remember not to overwhelm yourself.

4. It’s time to reach out

Even if you’re feeling overwhelmed right now, take this time to reach out to your customers and clients. A friendly “I hope all is well and I am here if you need to talk” goes a long way and shows amazing customer service.

Work on your personal brand

For many businesses, customers are not sure who is the founder of the company. This is an incredibly rare opportunity to pour your energy into working on your personal brand. Fix up your social media and personal website. Update your media kit and take new headshots (even if it’s at home). Every entrepreneur should have an established personal brand. This makes it easier for current and future customers to put a face to the name.

We are 6 months into 2020, don’t let this pandemic dictate your business and your day-to-day operations. Taking control and learning how to adapt to change will only make you stronger. Although some days will be harder than others to stay positive, just remember that you are not alone and you can always reach out to me.
