The Power of Sisterhood: How NYWICI helped me find my place
In a world that often values competition over connection, sisterhood stands as a quiet revolution. Women are too often pitted against one another, but in this challenging landscape, New York Women in Communications (NYWICI) creates a space where women and girls are empowered to chase their dreams in the communications field.
As the 2025 scholarship recipient of the Licensing International Award, I’ve experienced firsthand what makes NYWICI so special. It is the strong and tight-knit community of women who genuinely support and uplift one another. At the Matrix Awards, I had the incredible opportunity to meet legends of the industry, such as, Dustee Jenkins, Kristen Welker, Laura Brusca, and many more; who patiently listened, shared their stories, and offered invaluable advice. These moments are what showed me that NYWICI is a space where all women have the chance to be seen, heard, and celebrated.
To me, sisterhood means showing up for each other, offering support, mentorship, and encouragement. That’s why giving back has always been important to me, from my work with multiple women’s organizations, to my volunteer work with children. Even though I’m still early in my journey, I carry a deep respect for the women who came before me, and I look forward to helping those those who come after me.
NYWICI has given me more than a scholarship. It has given me confidence, a sense of belonging, and a network of strong women to look up to. The Matrix Awards showed me what’s possible when women lead with empathy, strength, and collaboration.
Whether I end up at an agency, a PR firm, or in-house, I now know this: the future is bright, and the possibilities are endless, especially when we walk together in sisterhood.
