NEXT LEVEL YOU: WOMEN SPEAKERS – PAST & PRESENT: WHY YOUR VOICE MATTERS

Women’s voices are very powerful, yet many times they are overlooked and unheard. Join Dana Rubin, longtime speechwriter and communication consultant, as she shares what inspired her to create the unique online resource, The Speaking While Female Speech Bank, a catalog of thousands of speeches by women from around the world. This insightful discussion will take a deeper look at the powerful idea that unless you know the history of women’s speech, you don’t really know American history — and that all our public voices are needed to create the world we want to live in.

Dana Rubin’s new book, Speaking While Female: 75 Extraordinary Speeches by American Women, is a walk through nearly four centuries of U.S. history, led by the women whose voices helped shape the nation. This ground-breaking anthology is changing the conversation about whose voices matter — and who should be heard. This is a conversation you won’t want to miss!

ABOUT DANA RUBIN

Dana founded SPEECH STUDIO to advocate for diversity of public speech and voice in the public sphere. She help companies and organizations develop their talented professionals to use their voices to become recognized experts, brand ambassadors, thought leaders, role models and rainmakers. Companies that support strong voices, internally and externally, are rewarded with a workforce that feels heard and valued, a robust talent pipeline, and strong reputational capital.

THE SPEAKING WHILE FEMALE SPEECH BANK puts the spotlight on public speeches by women from across time and around the world. Why do we assume the greatest speakers in history have been men? Learning about women’s overlooked speeches changed my life, and that’s why she spends so much time digging them out of archives, out-of-print books, microfilm, old newspapers and journals. Dana is busting the myth about women’s silence with the world’s largest online collection of women’s oratory from around the world and across time — because women have indeed been speaking out, loudly and proudly. Their words and ideas have changed our world. It’s time we recognize and celebrate them.

As a speaking coach, Dana has coached speakers for TED, TEDx and other major conferences, boardroom presentations, fundraising and client pitches, and high-stakes interviews. Drafted speeches for executives in all kinds of venues, from stadium commencements to party toasts. Written powerful op-eds, bylined articles and other influential material. Received awards and recognition for my work.

Fascinated by the power of the female voice, Dana authored, Speaking While Female: 75 Extraordinary Speeches by American Women. This book, which will be published in March 2023 during Women’s History Month, is an anthology that, for the first time, tells the story of our nation through women’s voices. Some of the women in the collection are household names, others have been almost completely overlooked but deserve to be known. This volume includes many women of color, plus women speaking out for gay rights, disability rights, and neurodiversity.

Dana is a longtime judge for the annual Cicero Speechwriting Awards, celebrating outstanding speeches and speechwriters around the world.
