SPOTLIGHT: ANN LIGUORI

BY Linda Descano
Ann LiguoriAnn is a trailblazer and visionary in the world of sports media, distinguishing herself as both on-air talent and the owner of sports radio and television properties. She is an author and the President of Ann Liguori Productions and the Ann Liguori Foundation. Ann’s foundation also sponsors New York Women in Communications’ Ann Liguori Foundation Sports Media Scholarship, which supports the study of sports media communications or management and is intended for those hoping to pursue a career in sports broadcasting, reporting, programming or production.

Ann was the first woman to host her own sports call-in show on WFAN-NY, where she hosted ‘Hey Liguori, What’s the Story?’ each week for 26 years. She was also an original on The Golf Channel, hosting the “Conversations with Ann Liguori” series, interviewing everyone from Matthew McConaughey, Celine Dion, Kevin Costner, Smokey Robinson, Jim Brown, and Samuel L. Jackson, to name a few, while golfing with them.

Her award-winning “Sports Interview with Ann Liguori” TV and Radio series features an A List of guests in sports and entertainment and she owns the treasure chest of content. Ann is the golf and tennis correspondent for WFAN and CBS Sports Radio Network, covering The Majors.

Ann has her own Hamptons Collection with dunejewelry.com and is the Brand Ambassador for PEAKVISION Sunglasses. You can follow Ann on twitter @annliguori and on Instagram at theannliguori.

Why she does what she does…

“I have a passion for sports, golf (the title of my book is “A Passion for Golf, Celebrity Musings About the Game”), travel and a genuine interest in people and their stories. My career covers all of that. I also enjoy giving back and mentoring.”

Drawn to NYWICI…

“NYWICI does a great job at administering the Ann Liguori Foundation Sports Media Scholarship. I’m proud of the recipients, their dedication in pursuing a career in sports media and advising them.”

Ann’s favorite social media platform…

“It’s become Instagram. I’m a photography nut and love to share photos of my travels and the events I cover, as well as seeing what others share.”

Communications’ biggest challenge…

“I prefer talking to someone in-person, instead of via email, text and social media. Eye contact is becoming obsolete, I’m afraid.”

Off the clock, really…

“I enjoy morning runs with my golden retriever Skye, daily swims, golfing the world and spending quality time with Scott and my family.”

Ann’s nirvana…

“My daily life…I’m so blessed.”

Did you know…

“Alison Waddington, my foundation’s 2016 NYWICI scholarship recipient, secured a full-time job working for the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles and the 2017 recipient, Emma Beltrandi, worked the Winter Olympics for NBC. And the 2018 Ann Liguori Foundation Charity Golf Classic takes place on June 4 at the Atlantic Golf Club in Bridgehampton, NY.”

 Day to relive…

“There are so many wonderful memories to cherish, both personally and professionally. And it’s great to know, the best is always ahead of us!”

Words to live by…

“We’re only limited by our own imaginations. Dream big, work hard, go for it.”
