SPOTLIGHT: MEGAN HESS
Senior Subscription Editor, Bloomberg
Megan Hess is senior subscriptions editor at Bloomberg, where she is focused on both acquisition (growing the consumer subscriptions business) and retention (creative ways of engaging current subscribers). She has more than 15 years of experience in digital and content strategy, and recently spent five years living and working in Hong Kong. Though she’s back in NYC now, her love for dim sum is as strong as ever.
Megan recently completed the yearlong Executive Program in News Innovation and Leadership at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY. Prior to joining Bloomberg, Megan was an editor at Mashable and the Scholastic Corporation. Her passion project, the website No Joe Schmo, features individuals with off-the-beaten-path jobs.
She is a graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, where she was a NYWICI scholarship recipient.
NYWICI WANTS TO KNOW:
If you could have one superpower, which would you choose?
I know it’s silly, but ever since I was little I always wished that I could fly.
Tell me about the first job you’ve ever held.
In high school, I worked at a chocolate shop in my hometown in New Jersey. I was worried it would make me grow sick of chocolate, but it didn’t.
What’s your process for turning a bad day into a good one?
Do some yoga, and then cook myself a delicious dinner while sipping a glass of wine. I’ll follow that up with some coffee ice cream.
Why NYWICI?
I won a scholarship from NYWICI in college and formed powerful connections with the other scholarship winners, and the organization has held a special place in my heart since. I’ve served on the NYWICI board in several different roles, and then moved to Hong Kong with work for 5 years. Now that I’m back in New York, I was thrilled to find a new way to get involved.
