Bridge2Rwanda Scholar

Amen Mugisha is a Bridge2Rwanda scholar. Mugisha is one of 39 scholars selected out of the 2,000 applicants for a highly competitive gap year program that helps young promising leaders around Rwanda, Burundi, DRC and South Sudan to attend international schools around the world. Through this program, Mugisha spends 40 hours per week over a year, studying English as a second language, leadership, discipleship, psycho-social, public speaking, writing, researching, advanced reading and community service.

Amen Mugisha is presenting the 2018 Matrix Award to Shelley Zalis.

Amen met Shelley when Shelley launched The Girls Lounge at the World Economic Forum in Kigali, Rwanda. Amen was selected as one of ten young female leaders in the country to attend the thought leadership sessions and be seated with and thus mentored in the moment by senior women leaders across the continent.

Before becoming a scholar, Mugisha completed an advanced level of high school and majored in history, economics and literature at Sonrise High School. She was ranked the best performer in Rwanda, based on Rwanda National Examinations in all arts combinations. In 2015, she won the Fred Hollows Foundation competition for an essay on eye care for all in the Northern Province.

The Imbuto Foundation, initiated by the First Lady of Rwanda Jeanette Kagame to encourage girls in education, awarded Mugisha as one of the top girls in 2017.

Mugisha volunteers for Acts4Rwanda, teaching history and English as a second language to primary and secondary students. She has also previously served as a volunteer for a primary school library as well as a volunteer interpreter at a vocational bible study. In her free time she also is a voice coach, singer and songwriter.
